For the eleventh time selected in the International Presidents Cup team which faces the United States from September 26 to 29 in Montreal (Canada), Adam Scott defended this biennial competition dominated by the Americans, victorious in the last nine editions.

Almost every two years, it’s the same old story. An international team is announced as finally competitive and in the end, it’s the United States that wins. Created in 1994, the Presidents Cupthe equivalent of the Ryder Cup but without the presence of European golfers, was quickly vampirized by the Americans. Only once, in 1998, Melbourne (Australia), the Internationals took the upper hand (20.5 to 11.5) before holding these same American players to a draw in 2003 in South Africa.

The rest? An unchallenged domination of the United States, victorious in the last nine editions. A situation that would tend to strongly discredit the event, a bit like in the 60s and 70s with the Ryder Cup when the team of Great Britain and Ireland (the continental players were not yet invited) was constantly crushed by its opponent, who was far too strong.

Present in this international team for the eleventh time, Adam Scott a, ahead of the tournament (scheduled from September 26 to 29 at Royal Montreal Golf Club), however, defended this biennial confrontation, insisting that it had not become “uninteresting”.

The international team has been moving in the right direction for a few years now. They haven’t yet given us the victory we wanted, but I think once they do, they will change the perception of the tournament.

Adam Scott

Despite the lack of competitiveness, I still think the event stands on its own. “, declared the Australian to our colleagues at Golfweek after they had mentioned the establishment of a mixed competition to replace this Presidents Cup which, according to them, was devoid of the slightest interest.

I don’t think she’s uninterestinghe continued. The Ryder Cup has also been dominated for a long time by the United States. The international team has been moving in the right direction for a few years. They haven’t yet given us the victory we wanted, but I think that as soon as they do, they will change the perception of the tournament. »

Asked a few days ago about the possibility of letting the Internationals win in order to revive the competition somewhat, Jim Furykthe American captain, frankly did not appreciate the idea, going so far as to insult the journalist who asked him the question. Proof, if any were needed, that the United States clearly does not want to give up anything. And too bad if this Presidents Cup no longer interests anyone… Or almost!
