Malestroit Book Fair

The first Sunday in October is now an unmissable date for all literature enthusiasts in the region. The Malestroit Book Fair is back again this year, and as with every edition, it promises a day full of meetings, discoveries and activities. This literary event, which will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, is structured around the captivating theme “Memory and sports”, with the iconic sports journalist Nelson Monfort as its patron.

A day dedicated to sporting memory

From 10am, the Malestroit village hall, located on Place Bonsergent, will open its doors to welcome the public, who will be able to wander freely among the stands of around fifty authors, publishers and illustrators. This year, visitors will be able to explore an original and nostalgic exhibition: “Sport and Olympism in the past in Malestroit”. This improbable collection of old photographs and postcards, embellished with montages created by Talmo during the Heritage Days, will immerse spectators in local sporting history.

Entertainment and conferences for young and old

The youngest will not be left out. At 10:30 am, Elise du Pass’temps offers a fun and educational moment with “Elise raconte”, a storytelling session dedicated to children from 3 to 8 years old. At the same time, a creative workshop on the theme of sport, led by Lydia, will welcome participants from 7 years old. This workshop, by reservation, will offer the opportunity to give free rein to the imagination of the little ones while approaching the world of sport.

The highlight of the morning will undoubtedly be the meeting with Nelson Monfort. At 10:30, the journalist will look back on his 40-year career and his significant experiences, from his beginnings to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. A unique opportunity to discover the behind-the-scenes of sport through the eyes of a passionate professional.

The afternoon will be just as eventful. At 3pm, the conference “From Athens in 1896 to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Parity in Sport” hosted by Stéphane Gachet, will address the evolution of women’s place in international sports competitions. This presentation will highlight the path taken from the time of Alice Milliat to the present day, where gender equality in sport remains a crucial issue.

Fun and friendly activities

In keeping with this year’s theme, the Salon is offering unique “Media Games”, orchestrated by Anthony Sérazin of the Orange Givrée Company. These games, which combine physical, intellectual and creative skills, promise moments of laughter and sharing for the whole family. On the program: curlivre, book-boxing, javelivre throwing, and many other revisited disciplines!

A games area will also be made available by the games library from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., while a convivial area, run by young people from the Queinnec high school, will offer coffee and cakes for gourmet breaks throughout the afternoon.

A host of authors to discover

Among the authors present, you will be able to meet local and regional talents such as Patrick Arduen, Christophe Auray, Marie Baldet, and many others. From fiction to documentary, essays or comics, there will be something for everyone. These meetings will offer visitors the opportunity to interact with the creators and learn more about their works.
