On August 2, 2024, the ship Escape was the victim of a major water leak after hitting a rocky bottom while sailing along the coast of Croisic (Loire-Atlantique).

Its owner, who was heading to Noirmoutier (Vendée), finally decided to come and run aground on Bonne Source beach in Pornichet.

“Pollution avoided”

The ship has been lying on the beach ever since. But “the SNSM and the City intervened quickly to avoid any pollution by pumping out the oils and hydrocarbons,” the town hall reassures.

The boat will finally disappear from the landscape. “The delay was a bit long because there were several difficulties: finding a company to evacuate it during this holiday period, the high tidal coefficients and having to remove it by land with the only access being the Saint-Gabriel passage located 700 meters from the grounding site,” explains the municipality.

It is this part of the beach (which is 2.5 km in total) which will be closed to the public from Tuesday August 27 at 2 p.m. to Wednesday August 28 at 2 p.m.

Weakened by the undertow (theEscape has already lost its cabin on August 20), it is not impossible that it will disintegrate and that its evacuation will be done in pieces.

The wreck will be transferred to the Romi company in Montoir-de-Bretagne, which specializes in waste recycling.

“These operations will be at the owner’s expense,” specifies the City of Pornichet.
