Historical due to the Paris Olympicsthe 2024 summer season has kept its promises in Atlantic coast seaside resorts. And this, despite capricious weatherespecially in July.

In Pornichet (Loire-Atlantique), the town hall revealed the first figures of a summer 2024 rather satisfactory.

More than a million visitors

According to Christophe Gavet, director of the tourist office, attendance “remained stable compared to 2023” with no less of 1.1 million excursionists (people coming for the day) in the municipalityof which 8% are foreigners, mainly Germans and English.

A figure which confirms the appeal of the Côte d’Amour among tourists from neighboring countries.

“This summer, second homes were full. Instead of going far away, people are prioritizing their vacations in accommodations already purchased because of purchasing power.”

Some restaurateurs in difficulty

This year, the budget was “more restricted but better controlled” by less well-off holidaymakers, affected by the drop in purchasing power since the covid years.

“The reduction in purchasing power is affecting certain sectors, particularly restaurants, which in some places can be expensive for a family. We have noticed that holidaymakers have preferred to spend on visits rather than on a dinner at a restaurant.”

Christophe Daguize, delegated advisor for economic development and tourism

Worried by a complicated start to Julythe traders have had a decent season. The turnover “has not changed enormously” but they admit, for the majority, their satisfactionnotably thanks to the peak of visitors from the weekend of August 15.

“The traders, the town hall and the tourist office are showing their satisfaction with the 2024 season, and it’s not over yet. The months of September and October are coming.”

THE summer vacationers will give way to “business tourists”, used to crisscrossing Pornichet and the peninsula after the start of the school year.
