Ukraine says it tested new missiles of its own production

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said kyiv had conducted its first test of a Ukrainian-made ballistic missile, as Russia carried out deadly strikes across the country for the second day in a row,” reports, Tuesday, August 27, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

“Last weekend, Zelensky also confirmed the existence of the self-produced Palyanytsia missile, which he called a ‘new class’ of weapons”, adds the US media.

The Ukrainian President spoke about “rocket drone” for this weapon that the platform United24, launched by Zelensky, compares it to a cruise missile, capable of flying in the atmosphere thanks to a jet engine, unlike ballistic missiles. The specialist interviewed by the official platform also emphasizes that this weapon is much faster and more devastating than the Ukrainian long-range drones.

Symbol of national identity

This new Palianytsia is named after a traditional Ukrainian bread that has become a symbol of national identity, explains the specialist blog Defence, especially because the word is difficult for Russians to pronounce. It is said that it was first used “successfully” last Saturday, according to Volodymyr Zelensky.

kyiv presents these weapons as a means of preventing Russian bombing by striking “Russian planes that carry [bombes et missiles] on military airfields” in Putin’s country, according to a video posted by Zelensky and cited by Newsweek. “However, the allies have so far not allowed Ukraine to do this with their weapons,” the video continues, hence the need according to kyiv to develop its own production.

Business Insider However, it is noted that Russia has already, according to a Washington source, moved these planes out of range of the missiles supplied to Ukraine by the West.

Even less is known about the ballistic missile unveiled by Zelensky on Tuesday at the Independence Forum. “It may be too early to talk about it, but I want the public to be aware of the work of our fellow citizens who work night and day in the defense industry,” said the president, quoted by Business Insider. “It is not known at what stage the design of the weapon is or when it could be used against Russia,” comments the American site.
