Gendarme killed during refusal to comply: Éric Comyn’s widow victim of “abject messages” on social networks, an investigation has been opened

According to a source close to the investigation, this cyberbullying comes after the comments made by Harmonie Comyn, the widow of the police officer killed when he refused to comply, during the tribute ceremony held in Mandelieu-la-Napoule on Wednesday, August 28.

A police officer was killed on Monday evening, August 26, after refusing to comply on the A8 motorway near Mougins, in the Alpes-Maritimes. The soldier from Mandelieu-la-Napoule, Éric Comyn, aged 54, married and father of two children, succumbed to his injuries.

Two days after the tragedy, a ceremony in tribute to the soldier took place in Mandelieu-la-Napoule. A moment during which Eric Comyn’s wife, Harmonie Comyn, gave a speech in which she indicated that “France killed my husband, the father of my children. France killed my husband through its inadequacy, its laxity and its excess of tolerance.”

But since she made these comments, she has been the victim of cyberbullying, a source close to the investigation told TF1info. She has reportedly been the victim of insulting remarks and “abject messages”on social networks.

For his part, the attorney general of the Aix-en-Provence court of appeal indicated that he “would ensure that certain odious, unacceptable remarks made on the fringes of this tragedy are punished to the full extent of the identification of their authors […] “Freedom of expression is not a reason for judicial impunity on social networks” et “cannot be a false nose for the commission of crimes, the propagation of hatred of institutions and those who serve them or their relatives.”
