Rain impacts travel causing some school districts to delay starts

At least one district has delayed the start of classes because of heavy rainfall across the area. This list will be updated as we receive official information.

TEXAS, USA — Heavy rainfall across West Texas is impacting travel in areas where areal and flash flooding are happening. Some school districts are watching the weather closely and will make a decision Tuesday morning – others have already decided to delay the start of classes.

GRAPE CREEK ISD: Delayed start at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Buses will run two hours late.

Parents and students are advised to frequently check for updated messages and notifications from GCISD communication apps such as DOJO and Remind.

HOWARD COLLEGE SAN ANGELO: Because of ongoing weather, flash flood notices and road conditions, Howard College San Angelo is canceling all classes starting after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Classes are scheduled as usual for Wednesday.

Please use your best judgment when traveling in unsafe conditions. Turn around, don’t drown.

IRION COUNTY ISD: School has been canceled Tuesday.

VERIBEST ISD: VISD made the decision to release classes early at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday because of roads continuing to be covered with water and not draining.

Administration says is constantly monitoring the weather and its effects on bus routes.Please stay vigilant and watchful for a potential delayed start. VISD will make a call as soon as possible. Morning weights have been canceled, as have morning practices.

TLCA SAN ANGELO: Because of severe weather conditions, all afterschool sports activities are canceled Tuesday. However, afterschool care will proceed as usual.

WATER VALLEY ISD: Afternoon update – all athletic facilities are closed and all practices and games canceled Tuesday.

8:01 a.m. update – WVISD has canceled classes Tuesday. Further updates will follow concerning Wednesday’s classes. Based on Tuesday’s cancellation, WVISD will have full days Friday, Sept. 13 and Sept. 20.
