This Tuesday, August 27, at around 4:30 a.m., a young man was found lying on the road in Audierne (Finistère). He could have been fatally mown down. No vehicle was on the scene when emergency services arrived, but thanks to car debris found on site, the police identified the driver of a car.

It was around 4:45 a.m. this Tuesday morning when, at a place called Suguensou, rue Lamartine, at the entrance to Audierne, a man discovered the lifeless body of a young man on the RD 765.

He immediately alerted the emergency services who, once on the scene, tried to resuscitate the 18-year-old man who was in cardio-respiratory arrest. Despite all the efforts, lasting almost an hour, of the Cap Sizun firefighters and the Samu, the victim could not be resuscitated.

On site, the gendarmes from Audierne and Plougastel-Saint-Germain recognized an 18-year-old man from Plonévez-Porzay.

According to Gurvan Kerlo’h, the mayor of Audierne who went to the scene shortly before 6 a.m., the police recovered “plastic debris of the crankcase type” belonging to a car.

Gendarmerie investigators also had access to surveillance videos from downtown Audierne. “If there was a collision with a car, it was probably heading towards the city centre” specifies the mayor.

Contacted, the Quimper public prosecutor’s office confirmed that vehicle debris was found on site and “allowed the identification of the driver of a vehicle probably present at the scene at the time of the collision”However, the deputy public prosecutor wishes to add that: “It is still premature to report any hit-and-run or other offence.”

He concludes by explaining that the investigation must first and foremost “determine the causes of death.”
