OM Mercato: Veretout in Lyon, it’s almost all good

Jordan Veretout should join Lyon as a joker. In this story, OM is on the way to gaining respect according to The Team. While the Marseille club had been offered a deal of 4 million euros, as well as salary compensation to be paid to the player in anticipation of lower emoluments at the Gones, John Textor’s club has revised its conditions. The transfer amount will be increased, bonuses linked to a European qualification of Pierre Sage’s team will also be included, as well as a percentage on resale. Above all, OM will not pay anything to the player, who will have to arrange with his new club for his remuneration.

Having arrived at OM in the summer of 2022, on loan with an option to buy for 12 million euros, Jordan Veretout quickly established himself in midfield. Decisive in key matches (assisting against Tottenham in the Champions League in the return leg and against Lyon in the league, scoring in Monaco just before the break), he even made a place for himself in Didier Deschamps’ squad for the World Cup in Qatar. Then unshakeable under Tudor (third playing time of the season), he was one of the rare executives to confirm the following season: in a complicated season with Marcelino, Gattuso then Gasset, he was still a starter all the time, even playing injured, and finished with the honorary title of third best player of the season behind Aubameyang and Balerdi. But Jordan Veretout, one of the highest salaries in the squad, does not seem to be in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans, while Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Ismaël Koné were quickly recruited to his position. Placed in the loft from the start, which he was able to deplore in private because it made him lose attractiveness on the market, he has always respected the club’s decisions, asking in return that he be respected. By accepting this proposal from a competitor in the race for Europe, OM seems to be doing its part. Perhaps all that remains is to include a clause in his contract so that he cannot take part in the Lyon-OM scheduled for September 22.
