“En Place” season 2 by Jean-Pascal Zadi: the anticipation power of series

Sometimes works of fiction anticipate reality without really wanting to. The first season of the series In place written and performed by Jean-Pascal Zadi told the story of Stéphane Blé, a suburban social worker who entered politics and ended up being elected President of the French Republic. Season 2 of this comedy series has just arrived on Netflix and strangely resonates with current events. Stéphane Blé must in fact form a government, then re-form it after legislative elections favorable to the far right. From the choice of the prime minister to the electoral compromises, the links between fiction and our reality are palpable here.

But as Jean-Pascal Zadi explains, this series is rooted in reality and seeks to speak to as many people as possible. Indeed, series that talk about the present allow the public to re-appropriate current events and subjects from which they sometimes feel distant: “I find it really exciting to tell the story of France through the prism of someone who knows nothing about politics and who is launching into the presidential election. The series brings politics back to the people, brings politics back to something popular (…) to a human and concrete point of view.”
