Le Havre. Maylis de Kerangal shortlisted for the Goncourt Prize for “Jour de ressac”

The first selection for the 2024 Prix Goncourt was announced on Tuesday, September 3. And among the sixteen novels chosen by the Académie Goncourt is Maylis de Kerangal’s latest work. The writer behind “Réparer les vivants” (2013) released “Jour de ressac” (Jour of Ressac) on August 15, published by Verticales. It is set in Le Havre, where she spent her childhood in the 1970s and 80s. A story, set against the backdrop of an investigation, that hits the mark: her work has also been nominated for the 2024 Fnac novel prize.


The verdict on November 4th

Fifteen other novels were shortlisted for the Prix Goncourt: “Tout le bruit du Guéliz” by Ruben Barrouk (Albin Michel), “Paris Musée du XXIe “Century” by Thomas Clerc (Les éditions de Minuit), Madelaine before dawn by Sandrine Collette (JC Lattès), “Houris” by Kamel Daoud (Gallimard), Jacaranda by Gaël Faye, “Archipels” by Hélène Gaudy, “Casualness is a beautiful thing” by Philippe Jaenada, “A better life” by Etienne Kern (Gallimard), “No respect” by Emmanuelle Lambert (Stock), “The Lost Children’s Club” by Rebecca Lighieri (POL), “Sleep your brute sleep” by Carole Martinez (Gallimard), “Heart” by Thibault de Montaigu (Albin Michel), “The Winter Warriors” by Olivier Norek (Michel Lafon), “You are the unhappy love of the Führer” by Jean-Noël Orengo (Grasset) and “The Bastion of Tears” by Abdellah Taïa (Julliard).

The famous literary prize will be awarded on November 4.
