Charged with aggravated rape (they were released with an obligation to remain on Argentinian soil, Editor’s note) of a 39-year-old woman, the two players from the French XV are apparently heading straight towards a favorable outcome in the Jégou-Auradou affair.

New defeat for the plaintiff

On Monday afternoon, September 2, the local media infobae revealed that the deputy prosecutor of the Attorney General’s Office, Gonzalo Nazar, has dismissed the request of the plaintiff’s lawyers who had filed a request for the recusal of the two prosecutors in charge of the investigation.

According to the plaintiff’s counsel, Dario Nora and Daniela Chaler were judging rather than investigating. They cited “mental violence” and a “lack of objectivity” in their request for recusal.

“The alleged loss of objectivity of the magistrates involved has not been proven,” responded the Mendoza Public Prosecutor’s Office.

A new defeat for the plaintiff’s lawyers, the latter being “still hospitalized” according to Me Natacha Romano, who had revealed 2 suicide attempts. At the end of last week, the complainant had sent several local media photos of her injuries taken just before she filed her complaint on July 7.

Return to France imminent for Jégou and Auradou?

As the days go by, a favourable outcome seems to be emerging for the two French XV players, Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jégou, who spent around ten days in detention in July, then were released on 12 August by the Mendoza Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Currently in Buenos Aires, the second line of Pau and the 3e line of La Rochelle have seen the prosecution recommend that they be allowed to leave the country. For this, the validation of Judge Eleonora Arenas is required. A hearing is scheduled for this Tuesday, September 3, at 4:30 p.m. French time.

In the event of a positive outcome, Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jégou, who have already recovered their passports, could take the first flight to France. This will not mean, however, that the investigation will be closed. For example, no date has been set for the request for dismissal filed by the lawyers of the two rugby players.

Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jégou are still charged with aggravated rape of a 39-year-old Argentinian woman on the night of July 6-7, in room 603 of the Diplomatic Hotel in Mendoza. The two Blues have admitted to sexual relations, but have always denied any form of violence and rape. The defense, however, speaks of “terrible violence.”
