Valencia forward Rafa Mir, 27, was arrested on Monday by the Civil Guard for alleged sexual assault, according to Cadena Ser and confirmed by official sources to this newspaper. The forward has not trained with his teammates. Sources from the investigation confirmed to the radio station that this alleged sexual assault was committed against two women of about 25 years old at the footballer’s home and that another man who is also under arrest was involved. The victims filed a complaint and needed hospital treatment.

The police arrested the player after a 25-year-old woman filed a complaint yesterday, Monday, who reported that she went to the footballer’s house with a 21-year-old friend and that they were sexually assaulted by Mir and another man, who is also under arrest. The complainant subsequently went to a hospital to be treated. The player spent the night in police custody and is expected to appear before a court tomorrow, Wednesday.

Rafa Mir is on loan from Sevilla to Valencia, where he arrived this summer. He has played in all four of his team’s games so far in the league. The player landed in the capital of Andalusia in the summer of 2021 from Huesca. Mir is originally from Cartagena (Murcia). He trained as a footballer at Valencia, where he made his debut in the first team at just 19 years old in the 2026-17 season. At Sevilla, after an acceptable first year, in which he scored 10 goals, he stopped counting on successive coaches. Especially in his last season, last year. At the centre of criticism from Sevilla fans, Mir explained in a documentary that Quique Sánchez Flores, the previous Sevilla coach, did not play him because of pressure from the Andalusian board.

Valencia issued a statement on Tuesday saying that it is aware of the arrest and that “in the absence of details regarding the same, for the moment it can only state that it will cooperate in everything that justice may require.”
