Florida deputy’s gun sold for $40 after left in public bathroom

A Seminole County deputy’s gun was taken from a RaceTrac restroom in Oviedo after he left it there while using the facilities. The deputy stopped at the convenience store to use the restroom and entered the accessible stall.He took off his gun belt and put it over the railing while he was on his cellphone, documents show. At some point, the gun was “sticking out of the toilet paper roll,” according to documents.Dennis, a convicted felon, said he “didn’t want to touch it because he was on probation.”Surveillance video shows Byron leaving the store “with a noticeable bulge showing on the right side of his waist.”Detectives say the two men sold the gun for “$40 via a CashApp.”Both men face multiple charges, including grand theft of a firearm.Dennis also faces a charge of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.The gun was recovered, but the deputy will likely face a review by the department’s professional standards division.
