OL: Transfer window over, John Textor apologizes – Olympique Lyonnais

In one of the most memorable stories of the 2024 transfer window, Ernest Nuamah was forcibly shipped to Fulham before disappearing just as he was about to sign. John Textor is trying to pick up the pieces.

Very hot last day of transfer window at Olympique Lyonnais, where John Textor took the controls to pull off some of his signature moves. Notably the arrival of Wilfried Zaha, who no one will complain about at OL as he is a real star who is settling in the Rhône, even if it was totally unexpected. Also unexpected was the Ernest Nuamah case, recruited a year earlier in a fantastic transfer from Denmark via Molenbeek, one of John Textor’s “front” clubs. But after a timid season with only 3 goals in over 30 games, the Ghanaian was brutally pushed out. Forced or almost to agree to join Fulham so that OL could recover money (19 ME and 30% of the player’s rights), the winger turned around when he was about to sign his contract a few minutes before the end of the transfer window, while he had passed the medical in tears, causing the end of this transfer expected by the two clubs.

Textor apologizes to Nuamah

Described as being very psychologically affected by this situation, Ernest Nuamah cracked when he saw that he had to leave Lyon when he felt good there, and join a club that he had absolutely not chosen under emergency conditions. Especially since the player had planned to buy a house in Lyon. Nuamah finally fled when it was time to sign, and John Textor insisted on taking over the file as soon as the transfer window ended. According to L’Equipe, the American owner sent him an apology note regarding the situation he experienced, and assured him that he was always welcome in Lyon, where he was at home. For his part, the Ghanaian has always made it known that he wanted to experience the European Cup with the OL jersey on his back, and this attachment is not necessarily insignificant when so many players flee to the Premier League as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Financial constraints are therefore forgotten for the moment, and Ernest Nuamah, currently injured, as well as OL, have decided to completely forget this episode to concentrate on the rest of the season.
