Paramount Pictures France has unveiled the trailer for Sonic 3. The opportunity to discover a little more about the emblematic character played by Keanu Reeves.

Director Jeff Fowler is back to tackle the third installment of his Sonic adaptation, the trailer for which has just been released by Paramount. The lineup once again features a star-studded cast including Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, newcomers Alyla Browne and Krysten Ritter, and another new (and major) presence: Keanu Reeves, who joins the popular franchise as Shadow. This marks a new collaboration with his co-star Idris Elba, who plays Knuckles. The two actors previously worked together on the game Cyberpunk 2077.
The trailer finally introduces the iconic character of Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic’s famous rival, played by Reeves. The film picks up where the previous one left off, with Shadow emerging from a 50-year cryostasis. As for the plot, here it is: Sonic, Tails and Knuckles must face an unprecedented threat: Shadow. The latter, extremely powerful, sows terror. To stop him, our heroes will have to ally themselves, despite their differences, with Dr. Robotnik.
Sonic returns to the cinema at Christmas for his greatest adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles and Tails find themselves facing a new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious and powerful enemy with unprecedented powers. Outmatched on all levels, Team Sonic will have to form an unlikely alliance to try to stop Shadow and protect our planet.
A film inspired by a cult game
The other good news is that this next Sonic movie promises to be rich in references for long-time fans. EIndeed, the actor who voices Sonic, Ben Schwartz, has confirmed that the third installment is largely inspired by Sonic Adventure 2. The parallels are quite numerous, from the movie’s logo that recalls that of the game to the plot that seems to take up certain key elements. Sonic 3 intends to hit hard, the first two feature films having nevertheless grossed respectively $320 million (and this despite COVID-19) and $405 million at the global box office. The release date is set for December 25 in French theaters.
And we also remind you that before the release of Sonic 3 in theaters, a mini-series centered on Knuckles will be available on Paramount+. This production will serve as a bridge between the two films and will explore the echidna’s adaptation to life on Earth. Accompanied by Sheriff Wade Whipple, Knuckles will have to face new enemies who covet his powers. Sonic and Tails will also make brief appearances.
