The Apple iPhone 16 has been the talk of the town for months now. This is an opportunity for fans of the Apple brand to learn in advance about the changes made to the iPhone 15. With the back-to-school keynote only a few days away, Apple Hub took the time to illustrate the 16 differences between the 2023 and 2024 models.

Design

Let’s start with the design… The iPhone 16/16 Plus get five changes compared to the iPhone 15/15 Plus.

First of all, thearrangement of the photo module sensors goes from diagonal to vertical. The goal here is to allow Apple’s new smartphones to record spatial videos for the Vision Pro mixed reality headset.

We note in passing that this change would put an end to the square format of the photo module, replaced by a vertical island grouping the two sensors and the microphone. The flash would be integrated into the shell of the iPhone 16/16 Plus.

The second image highlights the disappearance of the Ring/Silent switch, replaced by the bouton Action iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

In terms of colors, more frank colors would be part of it, to the detriment of the very successful pastel shades of the iPhone 15. According to rumors, we would be entitled to black, white, pink, blue and green.

Apple Hub then mentions a very little overweight for the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, which would take 2g compared to the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.

To finish on the design part, a brand new button would be present on the entire iPhone 16 range. Called Capture Button in English, (capture button in good French), the latter would be dedicated to taking photos and videos, with the added bonus of touch capabilities to adjust certain shooting options.

Screen

No big news on the slab side, the shared image only suggests the presence of a brighter Oled screen. Good news for people who are used to using their iPhone in direct sunlight.

Photo

On the photography side, Apple would play it fairly discreet in this year 2024. After having introduced a main sensor of 48 Mpx on the iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 would be satisfied with a ultra wide angle with better aperture (f/2.2 instead of f/2.4) and a function of macrophotographie.

An opportunity for budding photographers to capture brighter photos — great news for night shots — and the world of the tiny.

The latest photo novelty has already been mentioned above: the recording of space videos for the Vision Pro.

Power

Unsurprisingly, Apple plans to launch a new chip on its new smartphones. For the iPhone 16, Cupertino would switch to theA18 Bionic. An incremental evolution which would still have its importance this year with the advent of artificial intelligence.

Apple is indeed expected to improve its Neural Engine to meet the demands of its Apple Intelligence tools. As a bonus, the amount of RAM would be boosted to 8 Go to make it all work.

As a reminder, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are not included in the list of iPhones compatible with Apple Intelligence. As a result, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will be the first standard models to benefit from it.

It is also learned that connectivity will be improved thanks to the introduction of wifi 6E (compared to wifi 6 previously). To put it simply, this change allows you to take advantage of an additional frequency (6 GHz), which reduces interference and allows for faster and more stable connections.

Battery

Finally, three images inform us about the developments inherent to the battery. On the iPhone 16 side, Apple would have moved to a capacity of 3561 mAh instead of 3349 mAh, while the iPhone 16 Plus would drop to 4006 mAh instead of 4383 mAh.

Importantly, Apple is said to have moved to stacked batteriesa technology that has the advantage of offering better energy density, faster charging and better thermal management. In short, this change should allow the iPhone 16 to provide better battery life than the iPhone 15.

But that’s not all, the charge would also be entitled to a welcome improvement. The power would double in wiredthus increasing from 20 to 40 Wwhile technology MagSafe sans fil will reach 20 W instead of the traditional 15 W.

iPhone 15 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro

In a second Twitter/X thread, Apple Hub tackles the 16 differences between the iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 Pro/16 Pro Max.

Design and screen

To begin with, the big design change expected for this generation of Pro models in 2024 is at the display level. Apple would do away with the traditional 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch panels and replace them with 6.3 inches on the Pro and 6.9 inches on the Pro Max.

In addition to this, Apple is said to be refining the borders around the screen : 1.2mm for the iPhone 16 Pro and 1.15mm for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, compared to 1.71mm and 1.55mm for the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max.

Finally, we would be entitled to a new feature common to the iPhone 16/16 Plus: a brighter Oled screen.

Apple would then opt for a new titanium shade approaching gold. It would seem that the dark blue of the iPhone 15 Pro is being said to be goodbye. For their part, the traditional black, white and gray colors would be back, with potentially slightly updated color nuances.

The latest design novelty, specific to the entire iPhone 16 range, would be the capture button.

Photo

What would a new iPhone Pro model be without its new camera features? For the 2024 generation, Apple would opt for four changes.

The main one is the introduction of a sensor 48MP ultra wide angle. Replacing the traditional 12 Mpx lens, the latter would offer a much better definition, in particular with the arrival of technology from pixel-binning.

The second is a significant upgrade for the iPhone 16 Pro: the introduction of the x5 periscopic telephoto lenswhich had remained exclusive in 2023 to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

We then learn about support for a new photo format, the JPEG-XLand the ability to record 3K videos at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision.

Power

As with the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, a power gain would be part of it. As usual, the Pro models would be entitled to an improved version of the processor of the standard versions, namely theA18 Pro for this new generation.

A welcome performance boost for features Apple Intelligencenot needed at the moment since they are all already supported by the A17 Pro of the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max. This should therefore be useful for future AI tools, which are more demanding in terms of resources.

We would move on to the transition from wifi 6E technology to wifi 7thus delivering much higher speeds (up to 46 Gb/s instead of 9.6 Gb/s).

Last interesting point in terms of performance, Apple would have opted for a graphene heat sink instead of bronze. The opportunity to avoid new heating problems, like those related to the iPhone 15 Pro.

Battery

Good news is announced on the autonomy side. Just like on the iPhone 16/16 Plus, Apple would have opted for stacked batteriesthus promising better endurance.

As a bonus, we would benefit from greater battery capacities: 3577 mAh for iPhone 16 Pro and 4676 mAh for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, i.e. +301 mAh and +254 mAh compared to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

Fast charging would also evolve, reaching 40 W wired and 20 W wireless (MagSafe). An interesting evolution compared to the 27 W and 15 W of the last generations, but still clearly limited compared to the competition.
