The LFI-affiliated MP contacted the Paris public prosecutor on Tuesday 28 August following an interview with Haïm Korsia, in which the latter described the deaths in Gaza as “acts of war”.
Aymeric Caron contacted the Paris public prosecutor on Tuesday, August 28. The LFI-affiliated MP accuses Haïm Korsia of advocating terrorism. In an interview with BFMTV, the Chief Rabbi of France judged that the civilian victims in Gaza were “a fact of war that is the responsibility of Hamas, which does not return the hostages“, adding: “I have absolutely no reason to be ashamed of what Israel is doing in the way it conducts its wars.“. Then the LFI-NFP related MP announced on his X account (ex-Twitter) that he was contacting the prosecutor “sOn the basis of Article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, (…) to report these remarks by the Chief Rabbi of France publicly defending war crimes in Gaza“.
Two days before, the MP who launched his own movement (Ecological Revolution for the Living) had already denounced this statement on the same social network: “The masks have fallen so much in recent months. Chief Rabbi Haïm Korsia calmly declares that he supports the genocide underway in Gaza, that it is deserved, and lets his hatred of the Palestinians, whose flag he claims is shocking to show, be understood. Apology for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
These are crimes punishable by law. Will he, like some people who defend Palestinian rights, be summoned by the courts?
Counter-attack against LFI
In the same interview, Haïm Korsia denounced the attitude of France Insoumise, judging that Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party had imported the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to “play on a communitarian vote”. In reaction to Aymeric Caron’s complaint, the president of the CRIF, Yonathan Arfi, went in the same direction to defend the Chief Rabbi of France: “The Chief Rabbi of France, Haïm Korsia, is more republican than all the LFI deputies! Aymeric Caron betrays the values of the Republic day after day by stirring up divisions and hatred. So who should be condemned?“
Aymeric Caron has been closely following the situation in Gaza since the attacks of October 7 that left 1,199 dead. Israeli reprisals have left at least 40,476 dead in Gaza, according to Hamas. The LFI MP even initiated the screening of a film dedicated to the “atrocities” committed in Gaza.
