On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Ministerial Delegation for Francophonie to the MSJOP, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs collaborated to launch the column “Les mots des JO”, broadcast by RFI, to tell the story of the Games through the words and testimonies of athletes.
In audio and video, from “Olympic” to “Podium”, Lucie Bouteloup, journalist at RFI, tells the story and evolution of the Olympics in fifty-six emblematic words : a “parity” competition, which integrates new disciplines such as “surfing” or “breaking” and has opened up to “parasports”. Etymology, terminology, history, anecdotes, uses…
Created in collaboration with athletes, historians and students from around the world from French-speaking bilingual schools in the LabelFrancEducation network, the different episodes are an opportunity to learn more about the linguistic and sporting issues of this major event in French-speaking sport.
As the first Summer Paralympic Games hosted by France are about to open, the last episode looks back in particular at the origin of the word “Paralympics”, with a testimony from Ryadh Sallem, wheelchair rugby player.
