The Morbihan department was placed on orange alert for “storms” by Météo France on the night of Saturday August 31 to Sunday September 1, 2024. The yellow alert (storms, rain-flooding) is maintained until 8 p.m. this Sunday. Significant accumulations of rain have fallen.

“The equivalent of more than a month of precipitation”

“Impressive accumulations of rain on an axis going from the Morbihan coast to Kreiz Breizh since Saturday evening. Over the last 24 hours, we have noted, 86 mm in Ploërdut in Morbihan (the equivalent of more than a month of precipitation) including 60 mm falling in two hours,” indicates Météo Bretagne.

By decree, the prefecture has cancelled the holding of the Universe festival in this commune in the north of the department.

“The significant waves of water also affected the Pays d’Auray with more than 70 mm. We also recorded 61 mm in Camors and 50 mm in Sarzeau,” adds Météo Bretagne.

4,500 lightning strikes in a few hours

According to Météo France, there were 4,500 lightning strikes, including 500 lightning strikes, in the department.

The firefighters received 400 calls for around fifty interventions.

In Pluneret, a small landslide was reported.

Finally, we can point out the postponement of the back to school at the Manio public primary school. The flooding of the establishment has forced the authorities to postpone the start of the school year until Thursday, September 5.
