RATP controller in disciplinary council for his comments in an M6 report – Libération

In a report broadcast on June 30, an agent of the Ile-de-France bus network denounced his working conditions. The RATP believes that his remarks “damaged the image and values of the company.” The employee risks a sanction that could go as far as dismissal.

The affair is starting to cause some commotion among RATP controllers working in the Paris region bus network. An agent from this service is summoned this Friday, August 30 at 2 p.m. by the human resources department to “a preliminary interview for a disciplinary measure which could go as far as dismissal” according to a document consulted by Release. This employee, who has twenty-two years of seniority, is particularly accused of having testified, without the authorization of his management, in the magazine 66 minutes of M6 broadcast on June 30 and entitled: “Do controllers go too far?” Facing the camera, but with his face “blurred”, he describes in particular the system of bonuses awarded to agents proportionally to the amount of fines imposed as well as the pressure from his managers. Controllers receive 10% of the amount of a penalty when they collect it immediately on a bus. There are also bonuses if a team of controllers, which has 15 to 20 members, reaches an overall target of fines.

Union commitment

Although not formally identifiable, the RATP employee chose to denounce himself in order to avoid the accusation of some of his colleagues. The RATP management believes that in his remarks “seriously damaged the image and values of the company.” The entourage of the agent in question believes that he is being made to pay for his positions on the management of the controllers’ corps and his union commitment. He is a CGT activist, but does not have a mandate as an employee representative, nor the protection that goes with it. It requires, in particular, prior authorization from the Ministry of Labor before a dismissal.

Asked by Release, RATP management confirms that the disciplinary board will be held, but refuses to comment on the substance of the case and the grievances against the controller. The disciplinary board of the public transport company in the Paris region is made up of three management representatives and three employee representatives. It can impose sanctions ranging from exclusion to suspension and has one month to make its decision.
