Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine, Cyril Hanouna and Yann Barthès will be taking over their respective talk shows on September 2

TELEVISION – The hatchet has been dug up. This Monday, September 2, it is not only the schoolchildren of France who are going back to school. The teams of Don’t Touch My Post, Daily et C to You also. The three talk shows are back on the air on C8, TMC and France 5, and will, this year again, engage in a fierce battle: that of audiences.

After a season marked by various controversies and auditions, Cyril Hanouna, Yann Barthès and Anne-Élisabeth Lemoine are taking over the programs that were put on hold during the summer period. The goal of the three conductors is the same: to achieve the best possible ratings. And above all, to attract more viewers than the others.

To begin to pique the curiosity of viewers, the first battle has already taken place: that of communication. It’s up to you chose neutrality by riding the Olympic wave with a humorous clip. Daily opted for second degree. On social networks, the show posted posters on August 26 containing criticisms made to the show’s journalists such as ” Yann Barthès is afraid of live broadcasts “, criticisms issued in particular on CNews. A few hours later, TPMP replied with the same posters ” corrected, darka style “, with an additional dig at Daily which is not broadcast in ” real direct ».

On his side TPMP has also chosen to build up the suspense by announcing the name of the very first guest of the new school year: “Baba” himself. The star presenter revealed on air his new show on Europe 1 We are walking on our heads that he would answer Laurence Ferrari’s questions on September 2. The opportunity for him to return in particular to the decision of Arcom announced in July to withdraw C8’s DTT frequency. A decision on which Cyril Hanouna has not yet expressed himself.

The duel between Daily and TPMP

There’s no denying it, hostilities have indeed been relaunched after the summer break. And for good reason, broadcast at the same time on competing channels, TPMP and Quotidien and C à Vous have been waging a fierce ratings war for several years. A war that for the moment no one seems to be about to win.

The France 5 show is not (really) playing for victory, having been a good third for a long time, with average audiences of 1.19 million each evening between 7 p.m. and 7:50 p.m., as confirmed by PureMedias a few weeks ago. That said, the show had achieved a historic audience peak of 2.92 million viewers when the President of the Republic was the guest on December 20, 2023. It was during this evening that Emmanuel Macron made controversial remarks about Gérard Depardieu, calling him “national pride”. On the 2nd part of the show between 8 p.m. and 8:50 p.m., C à vous recorded an average of 922,000 viewers.

On the other hand, it is much tighter between Daily et TPMP. According to Médiamétrie figures for this 2nd part of the talk, considered the most watched, Daily averages around 1.3 million viewers, compared to 1.17 for TPMP.

Finally, in the very last segment before the start of films, series and other scheduled broadcasts (i.e. between 8:50 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.), TPMP records an average of 1.86 million viewers, where Daily reached an average of 2.11 million.

The swan song of TPMP ?

So it is Daily which seems to emerge victorious from this round for the 2023/2024 season. But several elements must be put into perspective. On the one hand, the regular increase in audiences of Don’t Touch My Post, where those of Daily et C to You remain stable or even slightly decrease from one year to the next. In addition, looking at the daily audiences reported by the site The Blog TV Newswe observe that it is not rare for the C8 talk show to take over.

Finally, it cannot be ruled out that TPMP literally throws all its forces into the battle during this 2024 back-to-school season, because its fate is more than uncertain. Indeed, in July, Arcom announced the non-renewal of the DTT frequency allocated to C8. Consequently, on February 28, 2025, the channel that currently broadcasts TPMP will no longer broadcast, theoretically.

After this date, it is unknown what fate will be reserved for the channel’s flagship show, presented by Cyril Hanouna. It is therefore probably with a knife between their teeth that “Baba” and all its columnists will return to the air. The proof: the show will even be broadcast 7 days a week, with a team of columnists reinforced thanks, for example, to the return of personalities like Maxime Guény. Will the energy of despair be enough to TPMP to impose itself?
