The opportunity is too good to miss for Primoz Roglic. The day after a stage won in a sprint by Australian Kaden Groves, the riders are tackling a difficult mountain stage on Sunday 1 September between Infiesto and the Valgrande-Pajares mountain resort in the north-west of the country. Over the 142.9 km route, the riders will climb three passes, two of which are category one, before tackling the formidable Cuitu Negru (hors catégorie, 18.9 km at 7.1%) at the end of the stage.

A course designed for climbers, which should encourage the favourites in the general classification to test the form of Ben O’Connor. Wearing the red jersey since the sixth stage, the Australian will have to redouble his efforts to contain the comeback of the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, who is now only 1’21” behind.
