This is the year of multidisciplinary artist Soleil Launière. She presents Aianishkatwhich means from one generation to the next. She will be on stage with her one-year-old daughter, her 70-year-old mentor and a double bass player in this show that speaks of listening and transmission. Since its founding, Tangente has been a springboard for countless artists. Each double bill is experimental and interdisciplinary. Rooted in Vancouver and performing around the world, Ballet BC opens its local season with Dawna triple bill that presents the world premiere of a work by French dancer and choreographer Pierre Pontvianne, an unknown to North American audiences. Choreographer Margaret Grenier, this year’s recipient of the Isadora Award, continues the work of Dancers of Damelahamid, the 50-year-old company founded by Margaret Harris, an elder who played a pivotal role in revitalizing Indigenous culture on B.C.’s northwest coast. With the support of her daughter and in tribute to the matriarch, Grenier is offering Raven Mother. The show’s music, inspired by old songs, is composed by Raven Grenier, who also sings.
