Two firefighters from the Solenzara base take on Kilimanjaro for a humanitarian mission

Two firefighters from the Solenzara air base, joined by a childhood friend, a Paris firefighter, have taken on a sporting and humanitarian challenge, with the ascent of Kilimanjaro.

“At first, we were just wondering where we were going to go on vacation, and in the end we ended up going on a slightly crazy humanitarian project.” smiles again Lucas Allain, firefighter at the 126 air base but also volunteer at the Sari-Solenzara barracks.
After deciding on their future destination, in this case Tanzania and the ascent of the highest peak in Africa, the famous and mythical Kilimanjaro, Lucas Allain and Sébastien Chatelain, joined by Pierre Daly, a childhood friend and Paris firefighter, decided to see things on a grand scale. “It seemed obvious to us that we could combine this sporting challenge with a humanitarian project in a country in distress. After making inquiries, I contacted the Association for Aid to Development for Young Tanzanians (AADJT), which is a serious organization, recognized as being of public utility. We quickly spoke and they told us about their project to create a school for children in the Kilimanjaro region.” continues Lucas Allain.

Help create a future nursery school

The future Saidia nursery school located in USA River, within the Arusha National Park, will increase the learning capacity in the region with around a hundred children aged 3 to 5, with a kitchen and access to drinking water, but also the creation of classrooms and dormitories, spaces dedicated to activities, with play areas, a vegetable garden to teach children how to grow vegetables and a space dedicated to meetings with parents.

A project that will cost nearly €50,000 in which the 3 friends will participate by bringing with them a little piece of Corsica with a banner featuring the ten local companies, partners of the event, with a highly anticipated photo that will be taken at the end of the climb if all goes well: “We have been very well received by the companies in the region, and they have been very receptive to our project. We have already raised over €4,000 and we hope to ultimately contribute between €5,000 and €10,000, which will complete the financing of the school.”
