Fire breaks out near the A9: motorway closed in both directions in the Perpignan area

Around 4:40 p.m. this Saturday, September 14, 2024, while firefighters were already mobilized on two fronts in Ortaffa and Villelongue-dels-Monts since the beginning of the afternoon, and were also monitoring the Camélas fire, which had been under control since noon, a new dangerous fire broke out in Rivesaltes, on the verges, relays L’Independant.

6 km from the plug

For safety reasons, particularly due to the risks to visibility, the authorities have decided to close access to the A9 between Perpignan Nord and Perpignan Sud. This measure has caused a traffic jam of 4 km towards Spain and 2 km towards Lyon.

Vinci Autoroutes has stated that, following the fire on the verges of the motorway, traffic has been interrupted on the A9 in both directions. The following measures have been put in place:

• Towards Lyon : entry prohibited and exit compulsory at Perpignan Sud n°42 for all vehicles since 4:45 p.m.
• Towards Spain : entry prohibited at Perpignan Nord n°41 for all vehicles since 4:40 p.m.; exit compulsory at Perpignan Nord n°41 for cars since 4:40 p.m.
