Taxes, pensions, SUV parking… What’s changing on September 1, 2024

This school year has some new things in store, and not just for children. The biggest change this September will concern the withholding tax rate. This will be automatically updated in September based on your income. This means that if your 2023 income differs from your 2022 income, your tax rate will change.

You will immediately see the difference in your salary, pay attention to your September pay slip. The rate that will be applied there will be the same until August 31, 2025.

You will not have to take any action, but you can check your rate on the website impots.gouv.fr and recalculate it in the event of a change in circumstances: change of profession, retirement, arrival of a child, marriage or civil partnership.

Revaluation of retirement pensions

As of September 1st, 1.1 million retirees will see their pensions increasedas provided for by the pension reform adopted almost a year ago. The increase concerns retirees with a full career having contributed at least 120 quarters with a salary close to the minimum wage. These are therefore minimum pensions, which will not exceed 847.57 euros/month after revaluation.

If the pensioner in question has a supplementary pension, The two incomes must not exceed 1,352.23 euros per month. To benefit from this revaluation, no action is necessary, you will receive a letter in September to inform youconfirm the increase in your pension.

Increase in parking prices for SUVs in Paris

SUV owners will be in for a bit of a surprise when parking their vehicles in Paris from September 1. Drivers of “heavy, polluting and bulky vehicles” will pay three times as much. The vehicles targeted are those weighing more than 1.6 tonnes, whether they are thermal, hybrid or electric.

The price increase, however, excludes those who live in Paris, people with reduced mobility and professionals.
