Benfica sent a statement to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) this Saturday informing that it is in negotiations with Roger Schmidt to terminate the contract with the German coach.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informs that it has started negotiations with coach Roger Schmidt to terminate the sports employment contract with immediate effect”, the document reads.
Schmidt has a contract with the “Eagles” until June 2026, but the crisis in results and the very poor performances that the team has been producing this season have only contributed to exacerbating a climate of dissatisfaction that has been going on since last season.
Benfica’s management and the SAD administration had a meeting already scheduled for this Saturday, to discuss the group’s accounts, but the draw with Moreirense (1-1) brought the issue of the continuity of the current technical team to the table.
Furthermore, the club’s president, Rui Costa, has already scheduled a press conference in Seixal for 6:30 pm, most likely to announce the outcome of this process.
