traffic restrictions put in place

Philippe, the King of the Belgians is making a state visit to from October 13 to 15. Traffic restrictions are planned in this Monday, October 14.

The state visit of Philippe, the King of the Belgians this Monday, October 14 to Paris involves traffic restrictions.

Parking of any motor vehicle is prohibited until midday on several streets in the 8th, 16th and 17th arrondissements.

Security perimeter around the Arc de Triomphe

George V metro station and all exits from Charles de Gaulle Étoile station with the exception of exits 5 (Carnot) and 9 (Wagram) are closed from 8 a.m. to noon.

All morning, a protection perimeter was established around Place Charles de Gaulle and the streets of Tilsit and Presbourg. The police forces will carry out checks around them (pat-downs, searches of luggage and vehicles).

Philippe and Mathilde are first expected in Paris for two days: a military welcome Monday morning at the Arc de Triomphe, followed by a lunch at Matignon with Prime Minister Michel Barnier. In the evening a state dinner is organized in their honor at the Elysée around Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron.

On Tuesday, the royal couple will be received at City Hall by the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo.

“Celebrate Franco-Belgian cultural proximity”

The last state visit to France by a Belgian sovereign dates back to 2003, when Albert II and his wife Paola, Philippe’s parents, were welcomed by Jacques Chirac.

This royal visit, announced ten days ago, is intended to “celebrate Franco-Belgian cultural proximity and the convergence of views on European issues”.

Competitiveness, reindustrialization, decarbonization of the economy: the three-day stay will cover several major current EU themes with conferences and company visits, notably in (October 16), according to the Belgian royal palace.
