Discover the official calendar of holidays and public holidays 2024/2025 for each zone

On September 2, 2024, the party is over for children: it is time to go back to the classroom and prepare for a long school year. Fortunately, some schoolchildren are happy about it, but we know that there are others who can’t wait to be on vacation again. This article is dedicated to them.

Four holiday periods

As every year, the school year is marked by four breaks:

  • All Saints’ Day holidays between the end of October and the beginning of November;
  • Christmas holidays between the end of December and the beginning of January;
  • winter holidays in February-March;
  • spring break in April-May.

And for the next summer holidays, we will have to wait until July 5, 2025.

Three metropolitan areas…and the others

In metropolitan France, the territory is divided into three zones, called A, B and C. This measure, which dates back to 1964 (with only two zones at the start), has two main objectives, both linked to the societal changes that were sweeping through post-war France:

  • limit simultaneous holiday departures (therefore traffic jams and road accidents);
  • extend the working period of seasonal establishments (in particular ski resorts).

Today, this shift between zones only occurs during the winter and spring holidays. Result:

  • All Saints’ Day holidays take place from October 19 to November 4 for everyone;
  • Christmas holidays are from December 21 to January 4 for everyone;
  • Winter holidays run from February 8 to March 10, depending on your area;
  • Spring break runs from April 5th to May 5th, depending on your area.

To find out your area and your winter and spring holiday dates, consult the map below. Also note that Corsica and the overseas territories are subject to specific dates: to find out more, consult the Service-public.fr simulator.
