Sur TV7, Andy Carrollthe Girondins de striker, answered various questions about his career, starting with the question of what was his greatest pride.

“It’s obviously a great pride to represent your country. Whether it was playing for England, or wearing the number 9 for Newcastle… I think growing up supporting Newcastle and looking up to legends like Alan Shearer, it was a dream… It was a dream for me to become that player- there. Wearing the number 9 for Newcastle is a dream for anyone who comes from the city. It was something I realized that opened the way for me to join the England team. I don’t know if I prefer Newcastle or England, but both are really fantastic.”

Is there a coach who influenced him and helped him in his career?

“I would probably say Sam Allardyce (whom he had at West Ham, editor’s note). When he was at Newcastle, I played with the youth teams, and I found him again a few years later at West Ham. He helped me a lot, not only on the field but also off it. His management style and his management of people was excellent. I really enjoyed playing under him.”

Finally, a match that marked him?

“Probably my hat-trick against Aston Villa. I remember we won 6-1 at home, and yes, I scored three goals. Playing for Newcastle and scoring a hat-trick at St. James Park was probably my favorite game.”
