Igor Jesus, Brazil’s new No. 9, to debut against Chile

The striker from Botafogo of Rio de Janeiro, who leads the Brazilian league, has won the race against Real Madrid’s gem Endrick and will start in his debut with the struggling five-time world champions, as confirmed by the coach.

Dorival Júnior stated that he chose the 23-year-old forward due to his experience and current form at Botafogo (seven goals in 19 matches), while he believes Endrick, at just 18 years old, is still in an adaptation phase at the Madrid club.

“Endrick is still going through a natural process of getting to know his club, the biggest in world football, where he faces significant competition,” he said before departing for the Chilean capital.

The Brazilian head coach also confirmed another debutant in the starting lineup, left-back Abner from Olympique , for the upcoming CONMEBOL qualifiers.

“Abner and Igor will start the match. I don’t think they should see it as a burden or an added difficulty beyond the natural responsibility of wearing such a heavy shirt as the Brazilian national team,” he pointed out.

Although he did not confirm the rest of the XI, it is expected to mirror the setup from recent training sessions: Ederson in goal; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Abner in defense; André and Lucas Paquetá in midfield; with Savinho, Raphinha, Rodrygo, and Igor Jesus leading the attack.
