Alerted by a neighbor after hearing worrying noises, police officers intervened this Wednesday, October 9, in the Malakoff district of Nantes. A security perimeter was cordoned off by the police, in particular the departmental intervention company (CDI).
According to our information, explosions were heard in the stairwell of a building on rue du Cher. A person was holed up in one of the neighborhood’s towers when police arrived. “There was a knock on my door, they asked me to get dressed quickly and go out quietly, walking along the walls,” says a resident of the evacuated building, at number 9. “It’s impressive to see a helmeted police officer at your door with a bulletproof vest and everything”said one of her neighbors. “I was sleeping, they must have rang several times around 8:30 a.m..”
The director of the Sophie-Germain college, located right next door, was reassured: the students can be welcomed this morning. However, residents were instructed not to stay near the windows.
“I thought I was dreaming”
A team from the Raid de Rennes (a specialized intervention unit of the national police) was called and arrived on site mid-morning. Helmeted police officers entered the first floor of the building.
“Around 8 a.m., I heard four bangs from the seventh floor. I thought I had dreamed. But a friend who was taking his daughter to school warned me that there were cops everywhere,” describes a resident of the neighboring building, at 11, rue du Cher, who adds: “I lived in Breil and I know what fireworks mortars are. That wasn’t it. Detonations very close together. »
The police finally arrested the suspect shortly before 11 a.m. This is a 40-year-old man who was drunk at the time of his arrest.
