GUEST RTL – “Lowering retirees’ income is an injustice”: Éric Coquerel’s rant

Sensitive subject. The government plans to postpone the indexation of pensions to inflation by six months, from January 1 to July 1, 2025. Which would allowsave 4 billion euros out of the 60 billion savings envisaged in the budget.

Traveling to the livestock fair in Clermont-Ferrand, Prime Minister Michel Barnier, however, said he was “open” to other solutions from deputies during the fall budget debates. Questioned this Sunday, October 6 during the Grand Jury RTL – Le Figaro – Public Senate – M6the president of the finance committee of the National Assembly Éric Coquerel was clear on the subject: “I think retirees should be exempt from the effort.”

“Are retirees, many of whom have a pension below the minimum wage, the privileged people of this country? Of course not,” continued the LFI deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis. For him, “lowering the income of retirees is not only an injustice but an economic ineptitude. If you take away 4 billion euros of purchasing power from retirees, that means that you take away 4 billion euros from popular consumption.”
