As with cinema, television productions are increasingly pushing the limits of their budget. For example, the series Rings of Power, broadcast on Amazon, needed $425 million to see the light of day. To develop the Star Wars universe, one would think that Disney was ready to spend lavishly. However, society made us understand that there were limits, and the cost of this show, decried by the most extreme fans, frankly exceeded them. Twice as expensive as The Mandalorian was too much!

One season and then gone, The Acolyte will not last long on Disney+

Last September, Disney surprised all fans of the saga Star Wars by announcing that one of its new series would not return. The announcement, rather brutal, caused a stir and the spectators who appreciated the show quickly mobilized to try to make Disney listen to reason. It must be said that the incomprehension was total since this decision, falling like a blow, came only two months after the broadcast of the last episode of season 1. No need for a long speech from Disney to understand that the company wanted to quickly stop the fees…

Furthermore, Disney made it clear that there were no possible positive outcomes since in addition to throwing in the towel, the company has simply decided to remove all “physical evidence” of its existencethat is to say that all of the merchandising for the series The Acolytesuch as derivative products, no longer has a place on the official Disney store. A situation which is reminiscent of the disastrous fate of the series WillowNow the company can only count on The Mandalorian or even Andor. As for the next series, Skeleton Crewwe wish him well.

Too expensive, not popular enough: The Acolyte series met a disastrous fate

In recent weeks, we haven’t really had an explanation about the cancellation of the series The Acolyte. That being said, one of the main actresses, given the very harsh criticism that the show received, expected that such measures would eventually be taken by Disney. From now on, the situation has calmed down somewhat and we are gradually beginning to understand the sudden stop validated by the firm with big ears: The Acolyte cost money, a lot of money. Now that we know the amount of money invested in the project, the decision seems clearer!

A torrent of hatred and tens of millions of dollars spent on the series, these are the two triggers for Disney’s cancellation. As the site points out Forbesthe development of the series and this first season would have cost the immense sum of 231 million dollars, or almost 29 million dollars for a single episode (28.75, to be more precise)! To better understand the weight of this invoice in Disney’s accounts, it should be remembered that The Mandalorianmuch more popular, cost half as much to produce ($15 million per episode). More or less, Disney had allocated the same budget to She-Hulk et WandaVision. In short, given the low ratio between investment and public reception, Disney preferred not to play it safe or to persist.
