: The first stone of the Le Magic complex has been laid… and it’s not cinema

It was cinema day, this Friday, October 4, in the – Montceau Urban Community. First with the first stone of the Montceau les Mines cinema complex. And then that of Le Creusot.

That’s how it is. There are sometimes clashes in the news. With Friday morning, a Carnet noir to announce the death of actor Michel Blanc. Blue notebooks in the afternoon, with the birth certificates of two cinemas, symbolized by the break of the first stone of the Capitole in Montceau les Mines and of the Magic in Le Creusot.
It took seven years for the Creusot cinema complex project to come to fruition. Why so much time? Quite simply, we must remember this, because Marie-Claude Jarrot, mayor of Montceau les Mines, and the Autun cinema, had filed an appeal, in 2017, against the Creusot cinema complex project, which had to physically be located in the territory of the town of Le Creusot.

If to this double appeal, in 2017, you add a rejection from the CNC following the appeals, COVID in 2020, but also then the obligation to find another project leader, after the takeover of Ciné Alpes by Pathé and the abandonment of the project, and the years were added to the years, until this Friday, September 4, the premieres of the Le Capitole cinema complex in Montceau les Mines, and therefore Le Magic, at Le Creusot, were officially announced.
In this sense, no one can say that David Marti, mayor of Le Creusot and President of the Urban Community, was ungrateful to Marie-Claude Jarrot, the Mayor of Montceau les Mines. Since not only did he refrain from recalling the bad story, but above all because the Urban Community is providing financial support for the two projects, led by Régis Faure, obviously very happy to see some form of outcome, with the first two stones…
Openings planned for the end of 2025.
Four elected officials from Le Creusot spoke with different hats. Jérémy Pinto, deputy for culture and vice-president of the CUCM, in charge of higher education, research and innovation; Evelyne Couillerot, vice-president of the CUCM in charge of the development of public space: Laëtitia Martinez, vice-president of the Regional Council, and obviously David Marti, president of the Urban Community and Mayor of Creusot.

Alain BOLLERY

Jérémy Pinto

“It is important for Le Creusot to have a complex that meets the needs of the population, while Le Morvan, at the end of the year, will still have 35,000 entries… With 5 rooms for nearly 740 places, and a greater number of sessions, it is a reaffirmed cultural ambition. The city is supporting the project with nearly 2 million euros.

Evelyne Couillerot

“From the Plaine des Riaux to Mach 2, the Urban Community has been developing this area for almost 10 years, for the economy, education, housing and culture. With the desire to make this site an attractive area of the territory, a meeting place too. This is a moving site. The development of the platform costs 420,000 euros including tax and the work to develop the public space will cost between 1.5 and 1.7 million euros in 2025. There will be two landscaped car parks of 250 places, both for the complex and for the eco-crèche. With a square that will be worked on.”

David Martin

“The two projects in Montceau and Le Creusot demonstrate that we must have a territorial vision. We are here on issues of attractiveness. We received from the urban community council the files for Framatome and for Jimmy in Coriolis. . With the technopole, we are focusing on innovation and the development of higher education. People who come to settle also need to know what the cinema offering is. Because yes, there is a demand for going to the cinema. We had to fight, but we overcame the challenges. The Urban Community is committing 2 million to Montceau and 1.6 million to Le Creusot. These are the fruits of public power.”

Laëtitia Martinez

“Two first stones, for two cinemas, that makes sense. It is a singular desire to strengthen the tools of attractiveness. In this Riaux plain, with the University, we are in this dynamic. The Region participates voluntarily, with 1.25 million euros for the cinema in Montceau and the same for the cinema in Le Creusot. With a collective dimension.

Régis Faure

“The Lumière Brothers thought that their inventions would be ephemeral. Cinema is an investment. For the cultural offer and for living together. We are here on a platform to build a cinema complex. It’s better than the movie platforms on television.”
