By drawing too little inspiration from the codes of the internet, M6 fails with “The traitors, new generation”

“Les Traitors” is a program created by M6 which is inspired by the game of Loup Garou. The principle is simple, around ten personalities are invited to play. Among them, some are designated as traitors and will have to eliminate loyal people one by one without ever being discovered. The last season ended on September 27, 2024. In the process, a somewhat special new season was published by surprise on M6+: “Les Traitors Nouvelle Génération”, with only influencers. The cast is notably made up of LeBouseuh, Jenny and Valentin from Le Monde à l’Envers and Enjoyphoenix.

This new version is disappointing. The fact that the participants are all from the same universe and know each other well outside of it breaks something. Alliances are too natural and some do not dare vote against their friends. If M6 has launched a special influencer season, it is not to make young people want to watch television, but to make them visit their streaming site: M6+. As soon as the surprise announcement was made, the season was already fully available on the application. However, we can doubt the effectiveness of the operation. Nobody talks about it and the content creators who participated mostly didn’t even publish a post to promote it. Which doesn’t help the show gain an audience.

“New Generation Traitors” suffers from comparison with “Dancing With the Internet Stars” which was an absolute success for TF1. The basic problem lies largely in the broadcast format of the show. A double episode per week, instead of having everything at once, would have been much better to increase the pressure over time and create an effect of enthusiasm and word of mouth. And above all, Access only on M6+ can constitute a huge obstacle for an audience who does not like these platforms and the excess advertising found there.
