“The rains were violent yesterday, late in the afternoon. They evolved in intensity to increase further around 8 p.m., confides the mayor of the town, Gérard Monnien. Devecey is at the feet of the White Lady. So all the water that runs down the hill flows into a stream that runs through the village. When the rains are too heavy, this stream swells. And as it overflows, it floods the Vernes district. »

The mayor calls for a meeting

This Tuesday evening, more than twenty houses were affected by this rising water. Firefighters had to intervene to support local residents and help dry out homes. “Since May, this is the fourth time that the stream has burst its banks. It is absolutely necessary that the State, Greater Besançon and the municipality meet around a table in order to find solutions, continues the elected official. If we don’t react, we could experience a catastrophe. Today it is a small stream. But if tomorrow we have even more intense and lasting rains, we will have major damage…”

Tuesday evening, residents were deprived of electricity and heating. Fortunately, this episode caused no casualties. The town hall simply rehoused two victims.
