“Now it’s the supporters who pay for the tour! »: Gérard Le Saint on his little cloud after the feat at Stade Brestois

You played the role of chauffeur in the streets of Salzburg before Tuesday evening’s match in Austria. The manager of a club qualified for the Champions League walking around the city with the supporters, that’s not ordinary, right?

We are like that here. Being with people suits us very well. With Denis (his brother, club boss), we often say it: we do all this for the people and with the people! It’s a bit like the “ touch”, and it also applies to the European Cup. And we continued after the match! We ended up in a bistro until late with all the supporters. For me, it’s all good: now, they’re the ones paying for the tour!

In the event of a big score for Brest, it’s no longer “Francis pays his turn”, but Gérard gets paid for his turn, then?

Oh yeah, that’s great. And they’re happy to do it, too.

More seriously, how did you experience this first match in history, away, for Stade Brestois, in the Champions League?

During the first half, by the time we got into it, we saw that it was a bit complicated. The disallowed goal for Salzburg does us the greatest good. In the second half, at 2-0 we saw that the youth opposite lost their footing a little, and there was no photo afterwards.

Does this match validate the summer transfer window, in your opinion?

Let’s not be afraid of words: in Brest, today we have the best team of all time. Just look at : Éric Roy changes nine guys on the pitch, and we still win 2-0.

With these two victories in the Champions League, you collect more than €4 million. This could encourage you to recruit in the winter transfer window, if necessary?

In my opinion, we have what it takes. When you can change nine players between two matches and hold the tide, it means you’re not too poorly stocked. And let’s not forget that we still have Pierre Lees Melou and Bradley Locko who will return. Warn the opponents: we will have them with us for the final in Munich! (Laughs)

“Pierre Lees Melou and Bradley Locko will return. We will have them with us for the final in Munich! »

The finale is perhaps a little ambitious. But with six points in two games, the play-offs, it becomes accessible. Do you believe it?

Everyone believes it. We showed on the pitch with this very good second half where we played, that we are on level against these teams.

As president of the BBH, you have already experienced great emotions, and in particular the trophies in the Coupe de . Is what happened Tuesday evening in Austria stronger?

It’s very strong, but there is no trophy yet. But who knows? Perhaps the best is yet to come!
