Pundit reckons Man City could be in serious trouble if ‘brilliant’ player gets injured

Manchester City are on the hunt to win a fifth consecutive Premier League trophy.

Having secured wins against Chelsea and Ipswich Town, City head into the third week of league fixtures at the top of the table on goal difference.

This weekend sees Pep Guardiola’s side take on West Ham United at the London Stadium to see if they can keep their winning streak going and take a step closer to potentially winning another title.

Ahead of Saturday’s match in East London, a pundit made a claim about one particular player in the City squad who has made a significant impact on the pitch so far this season.

Paul Merson makes Erling Haaland claim

In his latest column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Even Erling Haaland was quite brilliant last week against Ipswich, but the only problem for City is if he gets injured.

“It’s true that they could rely on a false-nine them. However, that system is not going to be successful for them over an extended run of games.”

Haaland is a vital player for City

After scoring his and City’s first league goal of the season in their 2-0 win over Chelsea, Haaland followed that up by scoring his tenth hat-trick for the Manchester club in last weekend’s 4-1 victory against Ipswich.

With the 24-year-old on the hunt to win his third consecutive league title and Golden Boot, Ian Wright recently backed Haaland to become the first player to score six goals in one league game.

Having played such a key role in City’s two previous title-winning campaigns, it’s easy to see why Merson thinks a potential injury to Haaland could impact the Manchester club’s chance of winning it again this term.

Moving forward, everyone at City will undoubtedly be hoping that the Norway international will be able to stay fit for the remainder of the season and help fire his side to more silverware.
