LFI announces impeachment motion and calls for “marches for respect for democracy”

“Unacceptable anti-democratic coup”, call for a “major popular mobilization”, “dangerous democratic irresponsibility”: the left revolted on Monday, August 26 against Emmanuel Macron’s decision to exclude the option of a left-wing government led by Lucie Castets, in the name of “institutional stability”. “A situation of exceptional gravity,” according to Mélenchon

On X (formerly Twitter), the rebellious leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon judged that the President of the Republic had just “create a situation of exceptional gravity”calling for a “rapid and firm popular and political response.”

He also specified that “a motion of impeachment will be filed” against the head of state, as he had threatened to do last week.

On BFMTV, the leader of the communists Fabien Roussel called for his part for “a large popular mobilization” in “the coming days”. And he continued: “We will have to mobilize in front of the prefecturesin city centres”, also refusing to participate in new consultations “if it is to ask us to form a government that would continue the policy of the outgoing government. “They don’t want that to change, there is no point in us coming”, he added.

For the leader of the Ecologists, Marine Tondelier, “invoking stability when we have dissolved without any consultation and we refuse the result of an election for which the French have never been so numerous to turn out is a dangerous democratic irresponsibility”.
