Bolivia struck a blow against Gareca’s Chile and ended an impressive drought

Oscar Villegas’ team dealt a blow to Ricardo Gareca’s team, who were unable to get back on their feet and are sinking to the bottom of the table. Eduardo Vargas scored the momentary equaliser and was the blooper of the match. Bolivia had not won away from home for 31 years.

Bolivia beat Chile 2-1 for the eighth day of the South American Qualifiers at the Julio Martínez Prádanos National Stadium in Santiago and gave a surprise. The cast led by Ricardo Gareca was unable to recover from the thrashing suffered at the Monumental against Argentina and has fallen to the bottom of the table.

Bolivia, for its part, managed to win away from home after 31 years and an incredible streak of 68 matches. Pure history.

However, The partial joy of fighting was not going to last long. In the 46th minute, before half-time, Miguel Terceros arrived to once again upset the home crowd and lower expectations. The forward scored the last goal of the match, as the second half did not offer too many surprises and neither team managed to take advantage.

Bolivia won again as a visitor in the Qualifiers after 31 years, 59 defeats and nine draws; a more than surprising number that further depresses La Roja and its meager present.

Oscar Vallegas’ team moved into seventh place and will now play in the play-offs. Besides, Gareca’s team can’t get out of the bad streak and is ranked tenth, above Peru, with only five points.
