Wins For Michel And Leeson In Second Pool Match

World No.1 in the BC3 individual Dan Michel and fellow Aussie Jamieson Leeson both delivered solid wins in their respective individual second pool matches.

Michel and ramp assistant Ashlee Madern made it two from two wins after defeating Great Britain’s Patrick Wilson 7-2.

“It was another tough match, me and Paddy have played a few games, so we know each other well,” Michel said.

“I didn’t start the best, but was able to respond well…. I thought I played a pretty decent game in the end, so aside from the first end, I’m happy with that.

“We have the final pool match tomorrow. Hopefully everything goes well and we are through to the quarter finals.

“Overall I feel good, the ball’s rolling well, the courts are nice and the atmosphere out there is fantastic with the crowd.”

Michel takes on Great Britain’s Will Arnott in the final pool round.

“Will is another player I know well, I have a good record against him but he’s a very strong competitor. He’s fairly new, only been around the last few years, but very good, so I won’t be taking him lightly.”

Earlier in the day Leeson and ramp assistant Jasmine Haydon notched up their first win of the Games.

They defeated Great Britain’s Sally Kidson 6-1 in front of an emphatic crowd. She too will have her final pool match tomorrow taking on Brazil’s Evelyn Oliveira.

Our boccia stars had some special onlookers in the crowd, including the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Chair of the Australian Sports Commission Kate Jenkins AO, President of Paralympics Australia Alison Creagh AM CSC and CEO of Australian Sports Commission Kieren Perkins OAM.
