Huawei records 3 million pre-orders for its triple foldable phone ahead of Apple’s iPhone 16 reveal

Chinese tech giant Huawei has recorded more than 3 million pre-orders for its triple-folding smartphone, its website said Monday, just hours before Apple unveils its next-generation iPhone.

Huawei’s Mate XT, a triple-folding Z-shaped phone, is expected to be unveiled at a launch event on Tuesday, as announced by the WeChat social media account.

Customers who pre-order will receive information on how to purchase the phone on Tuesday, the day of the launch, without having to pay a deposit.

The large number of pre-orders underscores Huawei’s ability to circumvent US sanctions and cements its position as a key competitor to Apple, which cut prices earlier this year to maintain market share.

Huawei’s launch will come shortly after Apple’s on September 9, when the company is expected to unveil its iPhone 16 lineup, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence features into its flagship devices.

According to consultancy IDC, Huawei was the largest seller of foldable phones in China in the second quarter, with a domestic market share of 42%.
