‘One Tree Hill Sequel’ In The Works At Netflix

Another day, another reboot.

One Tree Hillwhich began on long defunct network The WB in 2003 and concluded on The CW in 2012, is in the early stages of development for a potential reboot. Original stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are signed to executive produce and reprise their roles of Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, respectively, in the planned sequel series from writer/executive producer Becky Hartman Edwards (Firefly Lane) and Warner Bros. Television.

The original series was set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina and initially followed the lives of half-brothers Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) and their friends and schoolmates. Midway through the original run, there was a four year jump forward.

The sequel is said to take place 20 years later following best friends Brooke and Peyton who are now parents to teens and facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series.

Danneel Ackles, who played Rachel Gatina, is also in talks to return (and serve as an executive producer) on the potential One Tree Hill reboot. Other members of the original cast could also be back, but nothing is confirmed at press time. Chad Michael Murray is reportedly not one of them.

Netflix, of course, is no stranger to rebooting former network series. The roster, to-date, includes Fuller House (from Full House); limited series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life; seasons four and five of comedy Arrested Development; seasons four to six of western Longmire; season four of political thriller Designated Survivor; seasons four to six of urban fantasy-themed Lucifer; and season four of supernatural drama Manifest.

One Tree Hill could be next.
