A study by the Nice University Hospital and the Mediterranean Infection University Hospital Institute (IHU) in Marseille supports the effectiveness of a natural household product against bedbugs.
In a context where bedbugs have become a public health problem in industrialized countries, a recent study brings new hope in the fight against these pests. Terre de Sommières, a natural powder, has proven to be as effective – and much less toxic – than some products used by professionals.
An efficiency between 75 and 100%! A research team from the Nice University Hospital (Alpes-Maritimes), in collaboration with the IHU Méditerranée Infection in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), has just published a study that could be described as revolutionary in the fight against bedbugs.
Dr Pascal Delaunay and his colleagues from the Parasitology-Mycology team have carried out work on the effectiveness of different products against these pests which feed exclusively on blood with a very clear preference for human blood.
They compared the effects of Sommières Earth, green clay, talc and sodium bicarbonate to professional products such as diatomaceous earth.
Effective in 24 hours
And it was Terre de Sommières that proved to be the most effective. This natural powder, known for its absorbent properties and readily available commercially, proved to be formidable. It causes the death of insects in just 1 to 2 days. This short period allows bedbugs to carry this Terre de Sommières to their fellows who will also die in a few days.
Another advantage, and not the least, is the safety of this product. While Diatomaceous Earth is absorbent and abrasive for insects, it is also abrasive for our lungs and those of our pets. While Fuller’s Earth is not.
