DAZN Announces Subscription Promotion

DAZN, the broadcaster of eight Ligue 1 matches per day, has announced a promotional offer on its packages starting Tuesday and lasting twelve days in response to a wave of criticism over its exorbitant prices.

British streaming platform DAZN, which has been heavily criticized for the price of its Ligue 1 subscription, will launch a promotion on Tuesday, valid from September 10 to 22, lowering the price of its annual subscription from 29.99 to 19.99 euros per month, the head of DAZN France announced to AFP.

The no-obligation offer at half price for two months

“We are going to launch a promotion around our offers, valid from September 10 to September 22. Concerning the monthly offer (without commitment, Editor’s note) which is 39.99 euros, the first two months will be 19.99 euros. So 50% off on the first two months. And we are going to do an exceptional promotion on the annual offer which is currently 29.99 euros (per month), which will be 19.99 euros over 12 months,” said Brice Daumin, CEO of DAZN France.

“The first three days (of the French 1st division championship, editor’s note) were crucial for us. We had zero bugs. We are happy with this start. The feedback from the clubs is positive. A first step has been taken. Now, it is important to build over time, learn lessons and develop the product,” he added.

After a long saga, DAZN acquired the TV broadcasting rights for eight Ligue 1 matches per day at the beginning of July for an average of €400 million per year, with beIN Sports broadcasting one match for €100 million per year. But the subscription rate offered by DAZN (€29.99 per month for a one-year contract, €39.99 per month without a contract) quickly attracted a lot of criticism, with a rush towards illegal broadcasting methods.

According to Le Parisien, at least 200,000 people turned to the Telegram messaging service to watch the Le Havre-PSG match on August 14, the season opener. Google searches for IPTV, a technology that allows high-quality video streams to be broadcast over the Internet using a box connected to the television, have also exploded.
