Guillaume Meurice: after his dismissal from France Inter, the comedian bounces back on Radio Nova

the essential
Having been dismissed from France Inter last June for “serious misconduct”, comedian Guillaume Meurice announced his return to the airwaves of Radio Nova this Monday, August 26.

Dismissed in June with great fanfare from France Inter, comedian Guillaume Meurice has been recruited by Radio Nova to host a new Sunday show, where he is promised greater room for maneuver.

It’s back to school at Radio Nova… and it’s explosive!

Guillaume Meurice, Aymeric Lompret, Juliette Arnaud and Pierre-Emmanuel Barré arrive on Radio Nova live and in public.

“True to its free spirit, its impertinence, and its independence, Radio Nova, which has always given the microphone to comedians, welcomes this season Guillaume Meurice, Juliette Arnaud, Aymeric Lompret (two former France Inter employees who left voluntarily, Editor’s note) and Pierre-Emmanuel Barré” who is making his return to the radio, according to a press release on Monday.

Every Sunday starting September 8, Guillaume Meurice and his columnists will host “La Dernière” live and in public from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., for an “analysis” of current events, the same time slot and the same concept as the comedian’s former public service show, with its very left-wing positioning. This one, “Le Grand Dimanche soir”, was not renewed. Its conductor Charline Vanhoenacker returned to the France Inter morning show for a daily slot.

“Repeated disloyalty”

Guillaume Meurice had been dismissed for “serious misconduct” by Radio France, a sanction that he intends to contest in the industrial tribunal. This forced departure had caused significant internal unease.

The president of the public group, Sibyle Veil, had however affirmed that “neither freedom of expression nor humour have ever been threatened at Radio France”. She accused the troublemaker of “repeated disloyalty” after he repeated at the end of April his controversial remarks about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, made for the first time at the end of October.

He had compared him to a “sort of Nazi but without a foreskin”, which had triggered accusations of anti-Semitism and a complaint, ultimately dismissed. It had also earned Radio France a warning from Arcom, the broadcasting regulator.

In a “letter to France Inter” published on X, Guillaume Meurice had judged that his dismissal was an “ideological victory” for the “extreme right”, shortly before the early legislative elections where the RN was initially running in a position of strength.

“Since we understood that freedom of expression was above all a nice concept, we said to ourselves that it was better to imagine each show as if it were the last.”

“Since we understood that freedom of expression was above all a nice concept, we said to ourselves that it was better to imagine each show as if it were the last,” explains the comedian about the title of his new project, in the Radio Nova press release.

On X, he also posted a photo of himself and his future companions at the microphone, captioned with the words “see you soon”.
