France Duhamel, Alain Duhamel’s wife, reacts to the announcement of his retirement and reveals her personality in private (VIDEO)

“I had to get a divorce, either with BFM or with my wife.” It was with these very telling words that Alain Duhamel announced, on Monday, September 2, that he was making his final comeback on television. The 84-year-old journalist and political columnist, recruited in 2019 by BFMTV for his show Facing Duhamelwill hang up his boots at the end of the season, in June 2025. This Saturday, September 7, he was invited to C The weekly to react to his decision to retire. His wife, France, a former music professor and conductor, explained this threat of divorce in a video clip. “I hadn’t really shown it, but I made him understand that I thought that was enough. Because, well, it’s a very good career but you have to know when to stop. I would never have seen him retire at 65. While in fact he has written a lot of books, he could very well have said: ‘I’m stopping.’ But no, I was convinced that it wouldn’t work. But I didn’t ask him anything!”she assures.

What France Duhamel thought when she first met her husband

If the promise of a departure from television was officially made by Alain Duhamel, his wife is convinced “that he will always write”. “He has trouble letting go, that’s for sure! But finally, it has to end! 84 years, that’s okay!”she laughs. The journalists of C The weekly sought to find out, by interviewing him, the foundations of the love story between Alain and France Duhamel. “We were 26 and we got married at 27. In other words, it didn’t take long. I had still said to my sister: “I find him a little pedantic, but he’s the kind of man I’d like to marry,” the musician reveals. Her gamble paid off since the Duhamels have now been married for 57 years.

Alain Duhamel wants to appear absolutely impeccable on screen

“By definition, he is still very serious. Whereas I am very fanciful, I am capable of doing somewhat surprising things,” explains France Duhamel about her husband’s personality. “He is a perfectionist. So, the tie and pants must be well ironed. Pretext: ‘Since I’m on TV, I have to look impeccable.’ So, sometimes there’s a little thing, I say: ‘Nobody’s going to see it!’ He doesn’t believe me but he leaves anyway.” France Duhamel can rest assured that in a few months, her columnist husband will no longer have to worry about his daily appearances on BFMTV.
