Depay’s XXL salary in Brazil revealed

Memphis Depay, the 30-year-old Dutch forward, is continuing his career in Brazil by signing with Corinthians after leaving Atlético Madrid as a free agent. The former PSV, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona and Atlético player accepted the offer from the São Paulo club and traveled to Brazil this weekend to undergo a medical and finalise the details of his contract, which will tie him to Timão until December 2026. According to Globo Esporte, Memphis will receive a salary of 11 million euros over the 28 months of his contract.

Depay as figurehead

Despite rumours linking him to Sevilla, Depay was attracted by Corinthians’ approach, led by Fabinho Soldado, the director of football, Vinicius Cascone, the general secretary, and Pedro Silveira, the financial director. After rejecting an initial offer, negotiations were finally concluded, with Memphis’ signing seen as a strategic move not only on a sporting level, but also in terms of marketing for the Brazilian club. Memphis Depay thus becomes the 77th foreign player in Corinthians’ history and the first from the Netherlands. The signing marks an important step for the club, which is banking on the talent and experience of the Dutch international to strengthen its squad and increase its international visibility.
