Despite rumours linking him to Sevilla, Depay was attracted by Corinthians’ approach, led by Fabinho Soldado, the director of football, Vinicius Cascone, the general secretary, and Pedro Silveira, the financial director. After rejecting an initial offer, negotiations were finally concluded, with Memphis’ signing seen as a strategic move not only on a sporting level, but also in terms of marketing for the Brazilian club.
